English is Easy 1 for beginners: Test your vocabulary on the iPhone and the iPod touch!

More and more children are learning English as their second language in early elementary school.

Now there are two new Apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch which help your child practice the first vocabulary.  "English is Easy 1" introduces 115 fully illustrated Vocabulary words with sound, and "English is Easy Quiz 1" tests what you have learned.  More tutorials are in progress.

English is becoming more and more important as the common language of Europe. That's why more children in elementary school are learning English as a second language earlier than in the fifth grade, as was done previously.

The problem:  Vocabulary drills are much too boring.  The solution:  "English is Easy is a new app for the iPhone and iPod touch which makes learning fun.  The app contains 115 basic English words.  Children who want to improve their English can touch one of the illustrated buttons in the menu and choose one of nine categories such as animals, opposites, seasons, vegetables, and school supplies.

As soon as a category is chosen, the app loads the first word.  Each word is presented as a picture on the screen in landscape format with the text clearly written next to it.  The word is read aloud by a native English speaker with American pronunciation.  Nouns as well as adjectives are presented.  You can touch the buttons to go forward, or you can go to the menu and select Play All for a slideshow of the complete flashcard set.

A bit of sentence structure is introduced in the category Opposites, with ten nouns and adjectives combined to make short sentences.

Developer Frank Meyer says, "Pictures make a bigger impact than just words in a text, and it's even better if you can also hear the English word read aloud.  From an educator's perspective those elements are better than just scrolling through a vocabulary list.  This way, the children can learn the vocabulary in no time and really shine in their English lessons, bringing home better grades.

English is Easy 1 Quiz: A Pop-quiz in vocabulary!

Did you really learn your new vocabulary?  To test this, download the supplementary app. "English is Easy 1 - Quiz" uses multiple choice to test the acquired knowledge. There are 115 questions in random order.  This fully illustrated app is a real treat for children.

Each question is read aloud in English and presented as text on the screen.  The learner can choose from three pictures that answer the question.  Just tap on the picture that you think is right.

If the answer is correct, the next question comes up.  If the answer is false, the voice in the app says, "Sorry," or "Try again" and you have to tap on another picture.  The goal, of course, is to end the quiz with as few false answers as possible.  A separate score page shows you how many right answers you got, as well as how many times you answered incorrectly.  By selecting "Play again," the quiz can be restarted.
